'Mihá Ja Gievrra' is the first song in the Sami language from Lovisa Negga. It is written in a certain dialect called Julevsámegiella (Lule Sami/Lulesamiska) which is spoken by approximately 2000 speakers in the world. We can also hear Negga perform the Sami singing style 'joik' in the break before the last chorus.
The lyrics tell us about the fight for being who you are, whoever, wherever you are. It also encourages humanity to take care of each other, and speak the words of those who can't.
'Mihá ja gievrra' is not only a Sami dance pop song, it is also a universal tribute to freedom.
I want you to hear these words and sense their power, even though you might not fully understand them. They are filled with strength and encouragement for fighting back those trying to suppress the development of an equal society.
